**Dubai**: The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has launched a Sustainability and Innovation Centre at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, providing students with hands-on education in renewable energy, alongside interactive exhibits showcasing advancements in clean technology.
The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has established a Sustainability and Innovation Centre aimed at educating students on sustainability and clean energy practices. Located within the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the centre serves as a hub for young learners, providing them with various educational activities, interactive presentations, and practical experiences.
Since its inception, the centre has attracted over 30 academic institutions, engaging thousands of students from different educational levels through a series of sessions, workshops, and programmes. These initiatives are designed to deepen students’ theoretical understanding while also enhancing their practical skills in areas such as solar energy and technologies related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The centre offers engaging experiences for visitors, including drone shows and holograms, alongside opportunities to ride an autonomous bus. Additionally, using Metaverse technology, guests can take virtual tours of the solar park, the largest single-site solar park in the world based on the independent power producer (IPP) model. Through these technologies, visitors have the chance to explore the latest advancements in clean energy.
The first-floor exhibition area of the centre is highlighted by a display of DEWA’s history, showcasing major innovations in electricity and sustainable energy advancements. The area features more than 30 interactive exhibits that detail developments in renewable energy, including a dedicated DEWA Museum, insights into water desalination processes, and a visual space focused on the properties of light and solar radiation. Other exhibits are designed to inform visitors about the components of photovoltaic solar cells, concentrated solar power (CSP), and solar power tower technologies, as well as DEWA’s journey in renewable energy, its Smart DEWA initiatives, and the applications of solar cells in space exploration.
The Sustainability and Innovation Centre is open to visitors from Saturday to Wednesday between 9 am and 4 pm, and on Thursday from 9 am to 12 pm. Hologram shows are scheduled for every Sunday and Wednesday at 10:30 am and 2:30 pm. Admission to the centre includes discounts for children and students, with free entry for People of Determination. Tickets can be easily purchased through the website www.mbrsic.ae or via the centre’s dedicated smart app (MBRSIC).
