Emirates Glass introduces EmiCool range to transform Gulf building façades

Glass tends to be the biggest opening in towers, malls, or office buildings, which makes it a major pathway for solar heat to enter. And, you know, in places where air conditioning isn’t just a luxury but practically a necessity, the choice of glazing becomes pretty critical, since it can influence both energy consumption and how comfortable people feel inside.

That’s basically the context in which Emirates Glass is promoting its EmiCool range. The Dubai-based company explains that this line is created to limit heat transfer while still letting in daylight, a balancing act that’s becoming increasingly important. Developers and designers are looking for ways to cut down cooling loads without losing access to natural light, and EmiCool aims to help with that.

Emirates Glass is a subsidiary of Dubai Investments, and it’s one of the region’s leading producers of architectural glass, especially coatings for hot climates. Founded back in 1998 in Dubai, they say they supply energy-efficient glass throughout the Gulf and even further afield. Their main production method involves magnetic sputtering vacuum deposition, or MSVD, which applies extremely thin metallic layers onto glass in a controlled vacuum setting.

Their straightforward argument, really, is that if you alter how glass interacts with solar radiation, you can reduce the heat that gets inside before it even reaches the interior spaces. And that, in turn, lessens the load on air conditioning systems, plus, it can make big enclosed spaces more comfortable for folks living or working there.

Looking into the EmiCool family, the focus is mainly on solar control and low-emissivity performance. The coatings are designed to work selectively, that is, they reflect part of the solar energy while letting in visible light. Emirates Glass emphasizes that the goal is to keep daylighting intact but minimize unwanted heat gain, which has become a key part of high-performing building envelopes around here.

Of course, different projects have different needs, both in how they look and how they perform thermally. To address this, Emirates Glass has developed various product lines under the EmiCool name. For instance, the Classic T series uses coatings that can be applied on tinted substrates and can be post-tempered. They claim these coatings are usable in monolithic, laminated, or double-glazed units, and even in curved shapes if needed. The tinted base gives the glass a consistent appearance, and pairing it with low-e coatings in insulated glass can boost overall performance.

Then there’s the ST series, which shares a similar concept but on clear, non-tinted glass. Emirates says it offers a more neutral look with lower to medium reflectance, making it ideal for projects wanting solar mitigation without a big color shift. Like the Classic series, it’s versatile enough to be used in various formats, including curved applications.

For projects where transparency and visibility are paramount, the SuperLite series pushes further in that direction. Emirates describes it as a spectrally selective, double-silver low-e product that maintains strong visible clarity while controlling direct solar heat. They mention that this range can achieve light-to-solar-gain ratios up to 2.0, and in some insulated configurations, a U-value as low as 1.40 W/m²K in a 28 mm buildup. Now, those figures are quite significant in the Gulf, where intense sunlight and long cooling seasons mean that thermal performance is a big deal for designers.

At the top end, they have the Solite series, which is aimed at more demanding window applications and is supplied as insulated units because of its double-silver coating structure. Emirates states that this range adheres to ASTM and EN standards and is produced in an ISO 9001-certified facility. Basically, it’s targeted at large-scale commercial and residential projects where quality and reliable supply are crucial.

They also have the Sun T series, which broadens the options even further. It’s described as a multi-purpose line that balances solar and thermal control across different light transmission needs. Emirates says it features an NN coating that’s low in indoor reflectance and offers a neutral appearance, something that matters a lot in spaces like offices, hotels, or homes where both outward views and interior comfort are important.

For the climate technology community in the UAE, the bigger point isn’t just the product range itself but what it signals for the future. The building sector here is still one of the country’s biggest energy consumers, and glass has always been a bit of a double-edged sword, providing natural daylight and open aesthetics, sure, but also potentially increasing cooling costs in this desert environment. High-performance coatings are one of the main ways architects and engineers are working to resolve that tension.

Emirates Glass is making a strong case that the key is gaining more precise control over how solar energy interacts with the building envelope. That includes not just blocking heat but also managing visible light, reflection, and thermal transfer after installation. In a market where aesthetics, efficiency, and comfort all need to be balanced, that kind of control seems likely to stay at the center of innovation.
