Abu Dhabi’s Masdar has renewed a five-year $300m revolving credit facility with a syndicate of 25 international banks, reinforcing liquidity as it pushes towards 100GW of renewable capacity by 2030.

Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) has renewed its five-year $300m revolving credit facility with a syndicate of 25 international banks, MEED reported on 4 August. The company said the refinancing strengthens its liquidity position and balance sheet resilience as it works towards 100GW of renewable energy portfolio capacity by 2030.

The lending syndicate comprises 14 banks from Europe, four from the US and seven from Asia, according to Masdar. The renewal shows continued appetite among international lenders for Abu Dhabi’s flagship clean energy company, which has become one of the most active renewable developers in Europe, Asia and the Americas.

Masdar’s renewable portfolio reached 65GW earlier this year, about two-thirds of the way to its 2030 target. Of that, 45GW is operational, under construction or has reached financial close, while a further 20GW sits in advanced stages of development.

The company plans to deploy a further $30bn to $35bn in equity and project finance by 2030, adding an average of 10GW of new capacity each year. It said the next phase of growth will be funded through a combination of equity, green bonds and long-term project finance.

The renewal follows a run of major financings. Last month Masdar reached financial close on its $6.1bn round-the-clock renewable energy project in Abu Dhabi, securing a $5.1bn package from a consortium of 13 local and international banks. That project pairs 5.2GW of solar generation with 19GWh of battery storage and is expected to begin operations in 2027.

For investors, the refreshed facility keeps a flexible pool of working capital behind Masdar’s expansion at a time when the company is asking debt markets to fund an unusually steep growth curve. Sustained bank support at this scale will be a condition of hitting the 100GW target on schedule.
