UAE releases updated industrial guide to accelerate digital transformation and resilience

The Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology has rolled out an updated guide designed to assist UAE manufacturers in accelerating their adoption of digital tools and boosting their ability to handle disruptions more effectively.

This latest resource, called the Industrial Technology Transformation Index Use Case Guide 2.0, is part of the ministry’s broader Industrial Technology Transformation Index (ITTI) program. According to both the ministry and Emirati media coverage about its launch, the guide features over 30 specific use cases across key industrial sectors. It aims to give manufacturers practical insights into technologies that can enhance productivity, bolster resilience, and support sustainability initiatives.

Created in collaboration with EDGE Group, the guide isn’t just about painting a picture of future possibilities; it aims to transform factory insights into concrete, actionable examples. These examples can be tailored by companies based on how advanced their digital maturity is. Officials emphasize that it’s designed for a range of businesses, from those just beginning to adopt new technologies to more mature players, what really matters in a country where digital transformation in industry isn’t uniform across different sectors or company sizes.

Hasan Jasem Al Nowais, the ministry’s undersecretary, linked this launch to a wider national shift in how resilience is understood. During the unveiling, he mentioned that resilience is no longer solely about the size or output of a plant. Instead, it now involves ensuring continuity, securing supply chains, and fostering the confidence to adapt swiftly to changing conditions. He also noted that the guide’s purpose is to help companies move beyond small pilot projects and toward deploying solutions on a larger scale.

That focus lines up with a broader policy direction in the UAE. The guide aligns with both the National Strategy for Industry and Advanced Technology, and the Make it in the Emirates initiative, both of which aim to deepen the country’s industrial base and boost the competitiveness of local production. The ministry has also positioned the project alongside recent backing from the UAE Cabinet for using artificial intelligence across manufacturing operations and planning. It seems AI is now shifting from initial experiments to becoming a core part of industrial policy.

The involvement of EDGE Group adds credibility among local manufacturers. Hamad Al Marar, the group’s managing director and CEO, expressed that the partnership reflects a shared goal of positioning the UAE at the forefront of advanced manufacturing. Known as one of the country’s prominent tech groups, covering defense and other industrial sectors, EDGE’s role indicates that the guide is rooted not just in policy, but also in real-world industry know-how.

The ministry says this new edition builds on the first ITTI guide, incorporating findings from factory assessments, industry engagement, and collaborations with key partners. That’s pretty important because too often, industrial transformation efforts fall flat when they stay too abstract. By basing the guide on actual site assessments, it looks like the ministry is trying to close the gap between strategic planning and on-the-ground implementation.

The ITTI itself was initially launched in February 2023 during the World Government Summit, in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development. It was created to evaluate how prepared factories are for Industry 4.0 and their sustainability maturity, offering a road map for digital transformation. So, in essence, the new guide isn’t a brand-new initiative; it’s an extension of an existing framework, meant to help factories become more productive, efficient, competitive, and eco-friendly.

This broader perspective is especially important for those interested in climate tech. Industrial decarbonization isn’t just about changing energy sources; it also involves smarter operations, reducing downtime, optimizing how assets are used, and making supply chains more robust. A factory that can do things like remotely monitor equipment, predict maintenance needs, or optimize production schedules can reduce waste and costs at the same time.
