Du and UAEV partner to accelerate UAE’s transition to electric vehicles with digital and energy integration

Saleem Alblooshi, Chief Technology Officer at du, stresses the company’s dedication to merging their telecom innovations with sustainable mobility solutions. “By integrating AI, smart monitoring, and 5G connectivity into EV charging systems, we’re enabling smarter, faster, and more reliable charging experiences that align with the nation’s clean energy goals and net-zero ambitions,” he explained. Du intends to leverage its ultra-reliable fibre networks, 5G tech, cloud computing, AI analytics, and IoT integration to improve the efficiency and accessibility of EV charging stations.

Ali Al Darwish, CEO of UAEV, called the partnership a game-changer. “Our mission is to push forward the switch to sustainable mobility by making charging reliable, easy to access, and seamlessly integrated into daily life. By combining UAEV’s experience in deploying nationwide charging stations with du’s digital prowess, we’re setting a new standard for how technology and energy can come together to support the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 plan,” he said.

UAEV, which was launched in May 2024 as a joint venture between Etihad Water and Electricity and the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, is leading the charge in expanding the country’s EV charging infrastructure. It plans to install over 2,000 high-speed DC chargers by 2030, across the seven emirates. This strategy aligns with the National Electric Vehicles Policy and the Demand Side Management Program, both targeting a 40% boost in transport energy efficiency.

Earlier this year, UAEV announced plans to open the country’s very first flagship EV charging hub, a key part of its goal to double the charging network and make use of AI to streamline operations. This hub aims to tackle the common issue of range anxiety, offering ultra-fast, dependable charging points all over the UAE.

This new collaboration takes those plans further by combining UAEV’s physical infrastructure push with du’s digital innovation capabilities. The partnership will see EV charging hubs launched in important locations nationwide, along with loyalty and rewards programs to motivate users.
